ISKANDAR PUTERI, 27 Jun. — Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) expert in Artificial Intelligence (AI) research, Ts. Dr. Afnizanfaizal Abdullah from the Faculty of Engineering has been awarded a project fund worth RM100,000 from Iskandar Investment Berhad to establish a research centre for AI under the Blockchain Village @ Medini programme. The project is aimed to deliver AI research to the industrial demands, focusing on the Iskandar Puteri region to attract more prospective investments in technological advancements.
Iskandar Investment Berhad has appointed Synapse Innovation Sdn. Bhd., a UTM spin-off company led by Ts. Dr. Afnizanfaizal for commercializing AI research to accelerate economic growth through the 4th Industrial Revolution technologies. The centre will begin its first project of developing a carbon trading platform involving several industrial players in the natural gas and renewable energy sectors. The centre will also spearhead a few other projects as a roadmap to encourage industrial-based research in giving more values to the public.
Blockchain Village @ Medini (BV@M) has been set up as the first coordinated national platform to innovate and capitalize on the advantages of blockchain technology. BV@M’s strategic goal is to be the “tipping point” of the blockchain industry development in the region. With the support and collaborations of multiple local and international organizations, this TIPPing Strategy is projected to bring in 1,200 jobs and RM562 million by 2022. Another initiative by IIB Ventures Sdn. Bhd. or a company of Iskandar Investment Berhad, is a game-changing project to develop and establish a Blockchain ecosystem in Medini City.
